The underlying principle in any crisis, including emergencies and disasters, is to responsibly communicate relevant information to key audiences without irresponsibly over-reassuring them about the nature or consequences of the situation. Effective communications strategies, both internal and external, are key to successful crisis management. The CFAES Crisis Communication Plan provides procedures for notifying appropriate personnel in the event of a crisis, emergency or disaster situation and outlines policies to determine messages for internal and external audiences. The plan includes:
General Crisis Response Procedures
Crisis Response Team Composition
Sample Initial Statements
The Crisis Communication Plan is reviewed and updated every six months, in April and October of each year.
